Naoto Fukasawa
Naoto Fukasawa designed the Za stool to create a "happy mood." The simple, timeless piece is meant to be used for generations, much like the classic 1006 Navy chair. Named for the Japanese phrase "a place to sit," the Za stool embodies "the soul of Emeco," with a minimum carbon footprint and a design that feels like it belongs to the original family of Emeco chairs from the 1940s.
ABOUT THE BRAND
Emeco, or The Electric Machine and Equipment Company, is an American furniture brand established in 1944. Originally, it supplied furniture to the U.S. Navy, creating the legendary 1006 "Navy Chair" from recycled aluminum. This chair became an enduring classic. The brand's philosophy centers on sustainability and minimalism, using recycled and reclaimed materials like aluminum and PET plastic. Emeco has collaborated with renowned designers such as Philippe Starck, Jasper Morrison, and Konstantin Grcic, blending modern design with its core values of strength, simplicity, and sustainability.
