DESIGNER
Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby
Barber and Osgerby's collaboration with Emeco started with a simple, timeless café chair designed for strength and recyclability. Emeco CEO Gregg Buchbinder noted that their "poetry" and "technical expertise" led to the On and On chair, a durable, stackable design that perfectly suited Emeco's new engineered recycled PET (rPET) material, which can be recycled repeatedly.
ABOUT THE BRAND
Emeco, or The Electric Machine and Equipment Company, is an American furniture brand established in 1944. Originally, it supplied furniture to the U.S. Navy, creating the legendary 1006 "Navy Chair" from recycled aluminum. This chair became an enduring classic. The brand's philosophy centers on sustainability and minimalism, using recycled and reclaimed materials like aluminum and PET plastic. Emeco has collaborated with renowned designers such as Philippe Starck, Jasper Morrison, and Konstantin Grcic, blending modern design with its core values of strength, simplicity, and sustainability.
