Dalilips
The Dalilips was created by Salvador Dalí and Oscar Tusquets in 1972. And its sensual presence is constantly striking.
Based on Dalí’s painting, The Mae West Room (1936) and the Mae West Lips sofa (1937), the 300 editions of the Dalilips (initially named the ‘Salivasofá’) were made for the Mae West Hall at the Theatre Museum in Figueres. Due to a lack of technology, the sofa was not commercially viable, but on the centenary of Dalí’s birth in 2004, the Dalilips was released in polyethylene, a high-quality material fit for indoor and outdoor settings. It has been industrially produced ever since.
The Dalilips is real and surreal. Its shape, colour and lip lines emulate a giant mouth, and the moulded form is plush, comfortable and visually exciting.
