A surprising trio at first glance: The idea of mobility and flexible working inspired the collaboration between Tecta and PB 0110. The result is an ensemble made from the same hand-selected leather: the D4 folding armchair by Marcel Breuer with a new, matching stool. Added to this is a side bag that stands like an object in the room and can function as furniture, designed by artist and designer Ayzit Bostan. A group that is both functional and emotional. Designed for the flexible office and crafted with intricate leather craftsmanship.
The collaboration between PB 0110 and Tecta originated at a meeting in Lauenförde. "The place is vibrant," says Philipp Bree. "The Tecta Cantilever Chair Museum inspired us to further explore the abolition of home and office. We're moving, becoming increasingly mobile, nomadic. Having all our essentials with us provides security. This is how the new combination of bag, armchair, and stool was born."
Ayzit Bostan, who invited Philipp Bree to work on the project, conceived the bag's elegant shape, reminiscent of a small boat. "I based the bag's proportions on those of the D4," she says, "the two were meant to complement each other harmoniously." The result is an object large enough to house a personal office, valuable enough to be built to last, and elegant enough to engage with Breuer's folding chair. Even when developing this beautifully designed chair, Marcel Breuer had the vision of creating a lightweight and flexible piece of furniture for ships or tennis courts. Ayzit Bostan was inspired by this idea. A large base that fits a laptop, the sides not too high so you can see inside: the bag, with its interior compartments and recessed zippers, ensures order in the office and while traveling. Since the bag and the D4 folding chair were in perfect harmony, the collection lacked a stool as a mobile work element. Here, too, Ayzit Bostan was inspired by the Breuer model and incorporated the tubular steel runner detail. The collaboration resulted in a stool that fits seamlessly into the collection. Like the armchair, it can be folded for space-saving and practical storage and can also be hung on the wall.
Elegance, fine details, and exceptional leather quality characterize and connect the three pieces. "For the D4, I wanted a vibrant leather to contrast with the hard tubular steel," reports Philipp Bree. "The entire ensemble had to be made of the same natural leather. This wasn't an easy process, as the bag, at around 1.5 mm thick, is thinner and more supple. The armchair and stool needed a thicker, 3.5 mm thick material. I found both on Lake Constance in a family business that still uses traditional dyeing techniques." The craftsmanship that characterizes the PB 0110 and Tecta is evident in the details: highly polished tubular steel, bag-making expertise in hand-picked leather, meticulously crafted seams, and a fine brass buckle for the backrest of the D4. A trio that becomes more beautiful over time and makes its owners look elegant - whether in black or natural-colored leather.
