Bisaccia

Bisaccia is an ancient lace weave that is achieved on a four-shaft loom entirely hand-powered. The distinctive Bisaccia weaving technique and pattern was first introduced to make wool textiles utilized for making saddlebags in Southern Italy. This technique, featuring a grid where the warp yarns are visible and integral part of the design/pattern, later became a preferred technique, especially on the island of Sardinia, to make wool, cotton and linen bedspreads and rugs.
